Eugenio Suarez Shocked Himself By Fielding a Ground Ball Cleanly
This is what being an Honest Abe will do to you. Outfielders for the most part have figured it out- if you just hold up your glove and act like you have the ball, you’ll get some calls your way here and there. Suarez did the opposite like a big idiot. He looked everywhere besides his glove for the ball. If he just pretended like he fielded it cleanly (which he actually did), Beltre is out at first. But instead, Suarez couldn’t play it cool, and now is the big idiot in the blooper reels on Saturday mornings who fielded a ball cleanly and then acted like the ball was heading for the outfield fence. They’re probably going to play the Hokey Pokey music over that clip too. Sad!
Also, if this guy is on my team, I’m a bit worried about his confidence. Where is Eugenio Suarez’s self esteem? Someone get this guy some Zoloft, ASAP. The announcer said this is the 2nd time during the road trip that Suarez had the ball in his glove and didn’t even know it? He has that little confidence in his fielding ability? Can we hook Suarez up with some trust falls? Anything? Can’t have a 3rd baseman out there nabbing grounders but not believing that he is good enough to actually have the ball in his glove. Not a good look for anyone.
PS: The fact they don’t score that as an error is so dumb. I hate that errors aren’t given out for mental mistakes. This should clearly be an error, not an infield single. Staring at the sky while the ball is in your glove is more of an error than bobbling it. Just like when players flip the ball to the crowd when there’s only 2 outs and runners advance. That should also be ruled an error. Dumb plays should be treated as such.
